Art education provides students the chance to think, create, and discuss as the artists they are. Within my classroom and curricula, I believe in three main concepts: choice and voice, opportunities for community and world connections, and the time to work and create in a studio space, while meeting the diverse student needs in the art classroom. My teaching philosophy as an art educator is to teach and create a curriculum that meets the needs of a diverse student body, while providing choice, voice, and techniques that support individual growth and success. I look to create a classroom climate that builds connections to students, teachers, communities, and cross-curricular relationships. My art classroom is built on Universal Design for Learning best practices and building an equitable environment for all learners. Through choice, voice, and critical thinking students will have opportunities to make connections, while working and behaving as artists and I look to provide them the tools to succeed.
